more info would help. Are you renting or buying. Are you looking for public or private school?
We moved here from the Philadelphia area about 2 years ago and moved into Mt Island Harbor (the lake that is Charlotte’s water supply, about 15 min Nw of the city) It is a nice neighborhood, but we would like an area with more children and a little more developed. Huntersville is nice, but the traffic is a mess. Matthews is nice as well. Our daughter goes to St. Patrick’s school in Dilworth and we could not be happier. If you search Mecklenberg country schools on line they provide a ton of information about the public schools.
good luck, hope this helps
It all depends on what diversity you are looking for. I live in the North Charlotte university area, the schools are 90% african american, 5% hispanic and 5% white. I wouldnt’ say the charmeck School district is the best, they’ve been on several lock downs due to guns or ammunition being brought into the schools. where I live there is Vance High School, Mallard Elementary School, Nathaniel Alexander Elementary and James Martin Middle School. My neice went to Nathaniel Alexander and James Martin Middle until we put her in private school, we were tired of her being the minority along with the safety issue and teachers lack of communication with the parents when there was an issue with the student, the only time they let you know there was a problem was when it was too late to fix it, besides we felt that she was’t getting a good education when the schools concentrated more on social skills rather than academic skills.
The further north or south you go the better the schools, if you are out of the Charlotte Mecklenberg school district. Iredell and Cabarus schools are better than charmeck and south charlotte which is pineville-matthews and dilworth area are better but also the real estate and rentals down there are pricier and expensive.
And as far as I know there is no welcoming committee or welcome wagon in this area.
